A2 Identify target audiences and potential clients

Defining a target audience   

Music taste people stick to the same genres and do not branch out much to other genres so having your music target people interested into your genre is important. Sex does not have a significant impact on music but finding out which one is listening to your music or the genre most using statistics Race has some impact on genre as I hip hop you get a lot of black people listening but in rock it has a lot of white people.  

  

The target audience I would be aiming at are teenagers/ young adults in the age bracket of 16-30 because I am included in the age gap so I should be able to use the right music to intrigue the audience. I primarily listen to rock/metal so I could play popular/well known songs in that genre.  

  

Identifying potential clients   

Potential clients when working in the music industry include other professional musicians, producers, A&R representatives, and fans. Responsibilities a musician must practise are training and practising, turning up to rehearsals prepared on and time looking after instruments and being able to learn new music quickly. Composer or songwriters must work to a deadline, work with the performer, compose a song or some music. Music Directors execute clear instructions, set the tempo, guide the band, relaying ideas to the performers and scheduling rehearsals. Live performance roles choose suitable microphones, positioning Look after equipment, operating sound checks. Roadies/local crew carry equipment, set up before events, look after and check the equipment, stage, and lights and pack away at the end of the event.  

  

Create a list of your peers and what they can offer you and what you can offer them 

In my class there is a mix of musicians and technicians we have previously worked with each other to record, perform and master compositions. My role is a technician and I have the responsibility of recording the band consisting of Lexie, Ayden, Joe and Leon. I have recorded them perform decepticon, Lexie is the vocalist, Ayden plays bass, Leon plays guitar and joe plays drums. The tech side consists of me, Richie, Ollie, Jack R and Jack L we all set the equipment up and record the band. For any personal projects I can use their skills and knowledge for guidance or to create a composition. I can personally give them help with recording anything and I am a lyricist so I could provide some lyrics. 

External clients I have had help from Steve hoggart who has many years of experience in the industry, he has given me some guidance with my lyrics an example of this was that he could tell when I had written 2 songs within a week because they sounded similar, I have kept this in mind when writing any lyrics. He has given me an opportunity to be included in one of his songs with a vocal part. He also gave me some learning resources to correctly scream.  

  

Managers work on behalf of the artist (band) to promote their career sometimes works with the artists and sometimes has the final say this can depend on the size of the deal. If the artist is quite diverse then the manager may look after added businesses and keep all the legal inquires straight including sorting them the best deal even if it is not the best deal for making money   

Public Relations (PR) promotes the artists career and keeps the artists profile high and front of mind. Work with the artists label and the media to get the best press reviews, may even sort out interviews.  

Booking agency arranges tours and can promote new albums, takes care of financial and logistical requirements, contacts promoters and Arrange contracts promoters regarding pay.   

  

A record label use A&R representative to find people with talent and get them signed to a record label, they receive links to social networking sites where the music is posted from bands rather than MP3 files because the links mean there is no need to download anything. It is an efficient process that is fast and easy and a way to be heard by A&R representatives and various record labels.  

  

Funding Sources 

  

The Prince’s Trust is a good place to start because they are an organisation to help people from age 11-30 get jobs, education, or training. I want to be a vocalist so I would want to get lessons with the money from The Princes’ Trust because I cannot pay for it without a job. I want to be able to make my lyrics into an actual song so using the funds I should be able to buy the equipment and lessons I would need. After I use the princes Trust, I can use either the PRS or Sentric to make money from my work.  

Funding sources are available to musicians who need funding, they can be used for financing a tour, record, and release music, help someone develop their career, buying equipment   

  

PRS (Performing Rights Society)  

The Prince's Trust is set up by music ambassadors that have synonymous connections with great musicians having famously hosted rock galas.  

  

The Princes trust is a global collection of charities that strive to support people from the ages of 16 to 25 and them in education and employment. They could fund music lesson if I couldn’t afford it, they usually fund around £175-£250 to people aged 16-30 

Crowd funding sites such as Patreon and Kickstarter allow fans to help. 

 

Sentric music has an academy fund to support the next generation  

  

Women who make music is a music funding website that breakdown assumptions and stereotypes and help promote music.
